Mr Ncube said this in a meeting he held today with government employees. Others who attended the meeting include the Minister of Labor Professor Paul Mavima and the President of the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Unions Mrs Cecilia Alexander.
Mrs Alexander told the media that Mr Ncube has promised to increase civil servants' local currency salaries, saying that the government currently does not have US dollars to provide for the workers. We were not been able to contact Mr Mthuli Ncube or Mr Paul Mavima to get their side of the story.
But this meeting has come at a time when civil servants are lamenting that the local currency salaries that they are receiving are no longer buying anything due to the high cost of goods and inflation.
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency or Zimstat announced that inflation last month had reached 256.9 per cent.
Workers were given a 100% salary increment at the end of last month but they say it won't buy anything because of the weakness of the country's dollar.
