7 People are Suspected to Have Died of Cholera

The government, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, is implementing measures to strengthen cholera screening programs in areas experiencing an outbreak of the disease to prevent its spread. Currently, seven people are suspected to have died from cholera.

On April 16, three people contracted cholera, but there were no fatalities. Three additional cases were reported in Centenary, Mutare Rural, and Beitbridge.

Ten cholera patients were admitted to hospitals on that day, with four at Beitbridge District Hospital in Matabeleland South district, two in Mutare town, two in Mutare Rural, one in Chimanimani, and one in Centenary, in Mashonaland Central district.

Zimbabwe has recorded 457 suspected cases of cholera to date, with 91 confirmed cases and seven suspected deaths from the disease.

Eight additional individuals have recovered from cholera, representing 96% of all recoveries in the country.

Matabeleland North and Midlands regions have yet to report any cases of the disease. The Department of Health and Child Care is conducting Rapid Diagnostic and Culture Tests for suspected cases.

Seventeen districts, including Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke, and Wedza, have experienced cholera outbreaks since last year.
